The sixth in the series of expansions, World of Warcraft: Legion was announced some time ago at the Gamescom. There is a new continent, another demonic attack on Azeroth is imminent, Gul’dan has somehow managed to bring back Illidan, and a new war is coming. More information is, of course, available on the official website, but here is a brief description of the most significant new game features that will be present in the expansion:
Level cap raised up to 110.
Honor System to roll with in PVP
New artifact weapons
New class: The Demon Hunter. They will be able to use only battle blades (new weapon). Blades are always paired and occupy both weapons slots.
Headquarters – An Order Hall for each class
The number of the World of Warcraft subscribers continues to fall steadily—at this point we know about 5.6 million active players. Apparently, that is happening because the WoW audience is changing its habits and occupation. Those who played WoW at school or in college now cannot devote that much time to playing the game because they have a full time job and a family.
To fix the decline in the number of active players, Blizzard decided to increase the number of new expansions. They have decided to make a one-year gap between the expansions and that may well be the best solution to the problem. It is clear that prolonged periods of time without any updates will inevitably lead to the loss of subscribers as it has happened in the past.
Lead game designer Tom Chilton shared the company’s plans in an interview:
“It’s unbelievable that the story of the WoW has been going for so long,” he said. “We have already planned some additions in future.” He did not share the details, and unfortunately we won’t know about them until next year.
“It’s very important for us to create the best of all possible additions. We cannot control all the factors that have a direct influence on the number of active subscribers. We don’t want players to lost their faith, and therefore we strive to make a decent content,” said Chilton.
We hope that Blizzard will continue to amaze us with new additions, and we will not have to wait one more year to see something worthwhile. Perhaps the new expansion will be connected with the Warcraft movie which is scheduled for June 2016.
