The Metro series
The Metro series of video games is based on the series of Eastern European novels with the same name. While the original book franchise did not cross the ocean and is not very famous, its video game adaptation has millions of fans.
The original book written by Dmitry Glukhovsky was published about ten years ago. It is a post-apocalyptic story of a half-destroyed city based in the Moscow subway system. People who were lucky enough to survive a nuclear explosion now need to fight for their lives, while sharing their new home with not-so-friendly mutants and other survivors.
There are two video games based on the original book series—Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. Both games were created by the developers of the Ukrainian studio 4A Games and were released on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS 4. The Last Light game has a PS 3 version as well. It is noteworthy that while Metro 2033 is quite similar to the original book, Metro: Last Light has its own storyline that does not match the Metro 2034 book—the published sequel of the original story.
