Deal with chronic pain
Some games may help people who suffer from chronic pain caused by various illnesses. A study presented in 2010 at the annual scientific event organized by the American Pain Society, found that video games in which the player needs to interact with virtual reality help reduce the level of anxiety and pain caused by chronic illnesses or medical procedures.
It means that people who suffer from cancer and need to go through numerous courses of chemotherapy can use video games to deal with pain. In fact, almost any game may be used as an escape from pain, anxiety, and bad mood caused by the standard treatment or by the disease itself. But the games with the elements of the virtual reality were proven to be the most efficient.
The main reason for playing games being so helpful is that they distract your brain from pain. When you are playing, your brain is too busy to concentrate only on your pain, so you feel it less. Moreover, gaming releases endorphins—the chemicals that are responsible for your good mood and happiness.
